Eoghan O’Gara and Denis Bastick created great excitement here in St. Joseph’s today when they arrived as All Ireland winners with the Sam Maguire Cup. They were warmly welcomed by all the boys in the school and the boys posed some very interesting questions.
Members of the winning team in the school league, Monaghan, were presented with their medals by Eoghan and Denis. This was a great honour for all the boys.
Eoghan and Denis also played for St. Joseph’s in Croke Park and they said that they were some of their most memorable matches. They wished our senior team the best of luck in the final on November 5th
On the 24th of October Mr O’Flynn’s sixth class took part in an interschool debate. The first knockout round was against St. Colmcille’s National school in Knocklyon. It was a very exciting day. The St. Josephs team included the captain Christian, Alex, Shane and the subs Gavan, Jacob and Kieran. The St. Josephs boys team did unbelievably well but the all girl from St. Colmcille’s school team were very good opponents. The first speech by the St Colmcille’s team was brilliant but the boys came back in the crossfire round. The captains at the end made a summing up speech. Both teams did brilliantly but, unfortunately, there could only be one winner. In this case, that winner was the all girls team from St. Colmcille’s. They were deserved winners and the St. Joseph’s team were great losers. It was a great experience for the St. Joseph’s team and the class. All in all it was a great day!
We are delighted to welcome our biennial book fair to St. Joseph’s from October 16th to 22nd. There are books to suit all age groups and many areas of interest are catered for. We encourage the boys from 2nd to 6th class to check that their book has an AR quiz available for it.
All classes visit the book fair during the week and parents are welcome to visit each morning from 8:30 – 9:00 along with the boys. The Junior and Senior Infant boys are timetabled for 1:30 to 2:20 pm. We encourage the boys of all ages to keep reading. One day you may become a best selling author!
We would like to thank the executive of the Parent Association for organising supervision of the book fair and helping to ensure its success.
This is Maths Week all over Ireland. In St. Joseph’s we are having fun with practical maths., maths activities and ICT. We are having maths trails, bingo, maths table quizzes, maths board games, and problem solving activities throughout the week. There were prizes and fun for all.
