Cross Country
Our thanks to Terenure College for hosting the primary schools cross country again this year in their magnificent college grounds. 71 boys from St. Josephs´s, including some from 2nd and 3rd classes running their first cross country races, ran their socks off in the winter sunshine against the best runners from eight other local schools. We were delighted to have our German PE teacher, Melina, here for a flying visit, to encourage everyone. She will be back in the summer term for a few weeks. Science Week
Last week was Science Week and to celebrate it we had several events in St. Joseph’s. Science journalist Sean Duke of the Irish Times visited 4th classes and on Wednesday the parish hall was a hive of (noisy) activity as 1st to 6th classes showed off a variety of experiments to the whole school. Infant classes visited Imaginosity for a Science show, did some exciting light experiments, one class made butter and another even made their own (sugar-free) sweets! Click for more photos.

George Higgins RIP
It is with sadness that we say goodbye to George Higgins, our school caretaker who died on Friday. We attended his funeral mass in St Agnes Church today to pray with his family and friends.
We will miss George so much – he was a great friend and loyal supporter of St Joseph’s. May he rest in peace. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.
Cumann na mBunscol Football Leagues
Today our Junior White team played an exciting draw with our neighbours St. Mary´s, Rathfarnham to conclude our programme of matches in the Cumann na mBunscol leagues for 2017. Our four football teams played a total of 23 matches since early September, with over 100 boys representing the school. No medals or trophies were won this year but all the boys can be proud of their efforts, skill and sportsmanship. A special word of praise for our senior team who won their group impressively. They put up a titanic struggle in the semi-final, in torrential rain, before just coming up short against St. Michael´s who went on to win the final easily. Our two junior teams showed plenty of potential for the future with even a few 3rd class boys getting the chance to play. We thank all the teachers for giving their time and coaching expertise, including those who supervised the 3rd & 4th class league in the VEC grounds (organised by Mr. Concannon with some 6th class boys refereeing). Go raibh maith agaibh go léir!!
