Local clubs – a great partnership!

We are really looking forward to getting back to our local sports’ clubs.  The boys in 5th and 6th class did a survey for the Active School team.  As you can see, we have very active boys!

For the past 2-3 weeks as restrictions have lessened, we are delighted to be getting back in partnership with our local clubs.

Thank you  Kevin, our local GAA Templeogue Synge St football club coach who trains all of  our infants in ball skills one day a week.

Thank you Tommy from our local  GAA hurling club Faughs who teaches hurling to our  1st and 2nd class boys for 2 days every week.

Thank you  Fintan from Cricket Leinster who trains our boys in 5th and 6th class mid week.

And finally, we are delighted to welcome Gareth back next week, to teach tag rugby to our 3rd and 4th class boys. Gareth is the  community rugby officer for DCC South Central.

We are very grateful to our local clubs for being in partnership with us in St. Joseph’s BNS.

We are also looking forward to getting back to our swimming lessons in Templeogue Swimming Pool, but we will have to wait until the public health guidelines let  us know it is safe to do so.

Welcome back Tommy!

For National Active Schools week, 1st and 2nd classes were delighted to welcome back Tommy O’Mahony , Gaelic Promotions Officer from our local Faugh’s hurling club.   As restrictions have eased slightly, Tommy is now coming to our school on Monday and Tuesday taking 2 classes each day in a safe and socially distanced manner.  The boys had great fun! Thank you Tommy!

National Active School Week

As usual we celebrate Active School for 2 weeks in early June but we also do our part for National Active School Week.  We have just completed our design for  our school walkway and for this week we will try out some of  the  ’30 Ways to Use Your WALKWAY’ booklet.  We will most definitely cover the following thanks to Ms Tynan and her class for their hard work getting all sorted for us:

▶ Walkway Orienteering
▶ Walkway Addition
▶ Walkway Multiplication
▶ Walkway Sentences
▶ Walkway Alphabetical Organisation
▶ Walkway Handwriting
▶ Walkway Reading Suggestions
▶ Walkway Dictionary Search
▶ Walkway Mindfulness
▶ Walkway Quiz

— we intend to get very  creative! We will be  sharing your Walkway photos and videos here and on Twitter @stjosephsbns

Marine Week has come to an end!

What a week!  We finished our Marine exploration today with videos on octopuses, a rather sad video on face masks in the ocean made by a secondary school pupil and a final video on plastics in the ocean, which is more  uplifting! Thanks to all for their efforts – some of which you can see below!  We are all looking forward to brighter sunny  days when we can visit some of the beautiful beaches around Ireland.   Enjoy our sea shanty!

Mr Brennan’s Class and their (Virtual) visit to Microsoft Dreamspace

At the start I was excited to go to Microsoft Dreamspace but because of Covid we unfortunately were not able to go. Instead we had to do a zoom. I thought it wasn’t going to be good but it turned out to be really fun. DreamSpace was a really cool coding experience and I learned a lot about coding  and I recommend it to anyone who is into coding. At the beginning of the Zoom they showed us the massive building and the Dreamspace room was based on Minecraft. It was awesome. I would love to work there some day when I get a job. They showed us a really cool digital waterfall with LED lights. It was incredible. There were loads of shops and cafés and the food was super cheap. We got to make our very own video game on their cool website. The people that showed us around, answered all of our questions and were super nice. The video games turned out really well and I made an awesome video game out of code while learning at the same time.
