Mr. Hume’s retirement 

There was a special Carol Service in St. Joseph’s Church on Wed. 21stDecember to mark Mr. Hume’s retirement.

 It was attended by all the pupils and the school, parents and past pupils. 

Mr. Matt Hume and Ms. Irene Barber 

 Mr Hume worked in St. Joseph’s BNS for forty years. He was principal of the school for over 25 years. In that time he shaped the school into what it is today. During this time he was an example of brilliant leadership. He led with a great vision, understanding, compassion and commitment. He showed this commitment to the pupils, teachers and whole school community.

Mr Hume showed great vision in the major building projects he oversaw, his development of ICT within the school and his progressive involvement in all aspects of education. St. Josephs had three extentions built during Mr Hume’s time as principal and many other developments.

He was actively involved in all aspects of sport including training many winning teams during his time here. He promoted hurling, football, athletics and cricket in St. Joseph’s BNS.

Mr. Hume will be greatly missed by all the school community for his wisdom, vision, leadership and good humour.
