Curricular

Well done to our four credit union quiz teams who represented the school last Friday in Knocklyon. After a tough 72-question battle with our friends from neighbouring schools, Ballyroan came out on top in both the junior and senior quizzes. Congratulations to them and our thanks to Rathfarnham and District Credit Union and especially Michelle who organised a very successful night.  UPDATE- Well done to our two teams from 5th class who took part in the Zion Parish school quiz. One of our teams came out on top after a close contest. Click on photo to see all our teams.

Congratulations to Leo, Paul, Ryan and John on their fantastic work during the Mangahigh Maths Week Challenge 2017 which earned them gold medals. They were among the leading point scorers in the whole country.

Last week was Science Week and to celebrate it we had several events in St. Joseph’s. Science journalist Sean Duke of the Irish Times visited 4th classes and on Wednesday the parish hall was a hive of (noisy) activity as 1st to 6th classes showed off a variety of experiments to the whole school. Infant classes  visited Imaginosity for a Science show, did some exciting light experiments, one class made butter and another even made their own (sugar-free) sweets! Click for more photos.

Last week, having survived Hurricane Ophelia, we celebrated Maths week with exciting Maths trails, puzzles, games and activities. Our thanks to Ms. O´Riordan and her helpers for making it all happen. Click here for more information, photos and some puzzles to get you thinking!

Last week we had many activities for ‘Irish Road Safety Week’ where the pupils learned about road safety and about wearing hi-vis clothing, bag covers and vests to and from school.
We focussed on:
· The Safe Cross Code
· Be safe, be seen
· Wearing seatbelts
· Cycle safety
· Car safety
· Pedestrian safety

The following website is more suitable for pupils up to second class http://www.seatbeltsheriff.ie/index.html
Fun stuff sections, quizzes and teacher packs are also available there.
Congratulations to our lucky winners of our Road Safety Poster Awareness Campaign!

Over 200 boys from St Joseph’s took part in the Irish Board of Speech and Drama Exams this week in both communication skills and public speaking. Ms. Moloney worked with the boys on vocal projection and expression through their poetry performances and presentation skills through their speeches. They all made her very proud with the examiner Ms. June Nelson commenting on the high standard they all brought to the exam room. Special congratulations go to Ryan Whybrow (Ms. Harte), Sean McKiernan (Ms. Larmer), Vihan Neththsinghe (Ms. Maher) and Peter Daly (Ms. Gorman) who were our medal winners. Well done to all the boys.
