ICT

We are preparing for World Maths Week by setting up our accounts on Mangahigh, World Education Games and Hour of Code. This month we have access to websites that will not be available after October so we hope to get lots of maths practice.

The boys are all delighted with our new laptop / tablet computers.

They are especially happy to have touch screens and have one computer each in the classroom. ICT_infants

Hour of Code

Congratulations to all the boys who have written thousands of lines of code this week as part of the Hour of Code initiative. The aim is to interest boys and girls all over the world in coding and the boys in St. Joseph’s are really enjoying the challenges posed and we have some programmers of the future. For the past few weeks we have been working on Scratch and this week we’re using Javascript.

Here are the links for pupils to access their accounts

We have been coding using Scratch in St. Joseph’s for the past few weeks and we have included some examples of their projects here.We have created a car racing game and a helicopter game. We hope you enjoy them. You can also see the amount of coding required to create the games.

skypeItalyThis is an image of the class in Italy taken during the video link.

We did a project in Ms. Bleahene’s class with an Italian school (LASTRA SCUOLA) on the Celts. We told them about the warriors, clothes, houses (crannòg), food, farming, religion and metal work. We talked to them on Skype. We dressed up one of the days for the Skype video call. Some people in our class made a crannòg model. We had two practices with the Italian school. We sent them photos of our crannòg model as we were talking to them. Two boys brought in jewellery to show them. The Italians asked us questions about the Celts. The Skype meeting was recorded in Italy by an Irish company called Agtel.
