Santry Athletics 2022

Well done to our athletics team who came back from Santry yesterday with plenty of medals in the Dublin Primary School Sports Competitions. Individual medals included gold for Tommy and silver for Josh in the sprints while Sam ran a great 600m to finish 3rd on the line. Daire won his race taking home another gold medal for Joeys. Our two relay teams had practiced baton changing for a few weeks and it paid off with a gold for the U12 team and a close silver for the U14 team. Well done everyone!

Our Annual Art Exhibition – Virtual tour for all.

We hosted our annual Art Exhibition on Thursday. Every pupil submitted an art piece for the exhibition and got a chance to come down to the school hall to see all the artistic pieces in a wonderful setting. The boys were impressed with how their art looked when on display and loved looking at the other  art work.

The September 2022 Junior Infant  parent evening  was held in the hall and the new parents were in awe of the creativity of all our boys.

Truth be told, so are we!  Well done to all the young artists, and to all who helped set up the displays and prepared the hall for the exhibition.  A job well done – thank you!

Sport’s Day Events have begun!

Our junior and senior infants have kicked off our Sport’s day, week and  month events with a football blitz of coaching and games in the VEC grounds. The football fun was organised by our GAA coach Kevin from Templeogue Synge St, who coaches our boys every Friday in school.   Our 6th class prefects helped to bring the boys safely to the pitches and to referee the matches ensuring everyone had fun!  Thanks to the VEC for allowing us to use their wonderful grounds. The rain kept away and the boys loved playing on a carpet of green grass.

Gardening News

What a busy term we had in the garden! We harvested our rhubarb and from ‘Farm to fork’ the boys in 3rd and 4th class used their cooperative skills and  Maths’ skills to cook rhubarb crumble.

6th class did a great job cutting back old growth to make way for the  new.

Spring is well and truly here! Third classes were busy planting potatoes and tomatoes. Mr Kelly’s 1st class got help from Mr O’Doherty’s 6th class  to plant their lettuce seeds.

Hoping for a bumper harvest later as courgettes and chard seeds were also  planted in 4th class.

Infants planted onions and sunflower seeds and enjoyed getting handling the soil and getting grounded.  All calming rewarding activities.  We hope you all try these at home too.

Enjoy this little video of our endeavours!

Enjoying After School Sports Again!

The senior boys played their first soccer match in the schools’ soccer league for 2022 yesterday and came home with a win. They played against St Pat’s and had a comfortable win. We want to thank Larkview FC for the use of their all-weather pitch. It was great to see the smiling faces – supporters included.

Also we are very proud and happy with the performances and dedication of the boys during the Cumann na mBunscol Gaelic football season which finished this week. We wish to thank the teachers, Mr. Kelly, Mr. O’Doherty, Mr. O Brien, Ms. Byrne and Ms. Hahesy who have helped with the training and supervision.
Many thanks to the parents for their co-operation with drives to matches and training.

Hurling and athletics will take place after the Easter holiday.
