Our new Comenius project Window on Europe – Learning to Learn was launched in Szezecin, Poland on October 15th. It was attended by teachers and principals from the six participating schools, Spain, Ireland, Norway, France, Poland and Italy.
The schedule of activities and mobilities for the next two years is now in place. The website for the project www.windowoneurope.eu is available and it will be central to many of the activities during the year as ICT will be used in all aspects of the project. Pupils will be exchanging emails, videos and sound files, participating in joint projects with pupils from the other schools. We will be hosting pupils and teachers from the participating countries and we also hope to bring pupils from St. Joseph’s to some of the partner schools over the next two years.
Maths is one of the 11 subjects in the primary curriculum which your child will learn at school.
The podcast, tip sheets and video clips below tell you about the maths your child will learn
in junior and senior infants and give you tips about how you can help your child at home.

We are happy to announce that St. Joseph’s application for Comenius Project has been accepted. We are joined n the project with our friends in Sant Ignasi School in Barcelona and a school in Italy, Norway, France and Poland.
The theme of the project is “Window on Europe – Learning to Learn.” The project will continue for a period of two years and will entail pupils exchanging emails, comparing customs, and practices in each country. There will be a dedicated website for the project with exemplars of the work done and the various activities shared between the various schools.
We hope to be hosting many of our partners in St. Joseph’s over the two years and we also plan to travel, with some pupils from St. Joseph’s to the partner schools.
The project is funded by Comenius which is part of the European Commission’s Lifelong Learning Programme and Léargas, the National body in Ireland.

Chris Bennett is on the Dublin Minor panel at 16 years old. He came on during the final in Croke Park against Tipperary and I’m sure he’ll feature again in the replay. Chris was a pupil in St. Joseph’s just four years ago and he showed his potential then. We wish him the very best of luck.
We would like to welcome all the boys back to St. Joseph’s. We hope you had a great holiday and that you are all refreshed for the new school year.
We would like to extend a special welcome to our new junior infant classes. The boys came to school without any problems. It was a little more traumatic for some of the parents. After a few days in school you would think junior infants have been at school for years.
We are changing our text alert facility and we are hoping to use email more extensively this year as a means of communicating with parents. We use texts to contact parents in cases where there are cancellations or changes in arrangements at short notice. As part of our Green School initiative we would like to use email in the future for distributing newsletters, notes etc. and help save on paper and printing. We intend to use hardcopy and email for the coming year.
