Target Boards

After a week of maths the 6th classes, Ms. Bleahene and Mr. Brennan, win the Target Board challenge beating every other school in Ireland. Ms Molloy’s 4th class, after a late start came in 5th overall in Ireland. The boys worked really hard and the success of the weeks maths could be summarised in the one overheard comment ‘I never knew that maths could be so much fun’

This school year we are celebrating our sesquicentennial year of providing primary school education for the boys of Terenure.  In other words, we are 150 years old!  Our school was founded on November 5th, 1866 and it was called Roundtown Boys’ National School.  We are planning many events and activities throughout this school year. Keep checking out our website for updates.

The plan is to have a threefold celebration:
1) November (7th – 11th) 2016: A weeklong celebration with our present day pupils
2) St Joseph’s Parish will come together with the boys’ and girls’ schools to celebrate their joint 150th anniversary on the Feast day of St Joseph, March 19th 2017.
3) Past pupil reunion: Early Spring.
If you have any photos, stories or artefacts from days gone by connected to St Joseph’s BNS, could you please drop in with them to us so we can record and display copies for all to see.  If it is easier to send scanned pictures of items and photos please send them to info@stjosephsterenure.ie with a little note detailing who,  when, where and what you are sending us.   We are looking forward to hearing your stories etc. and believe that they will make history come alive for our boys.

At our welcome assembly, we launched our celebratory year in style with the full Garda band ensemble!  The boys were entertained with a mixture of music and song: they danced, clapped and sang their hearts out.  We want to thank the Garda band for helping us mark the beginning of this very special year.

Green Flag Award Ceremony

We were presented with the Green Flag for our work in GLOBAL CITIZENSHIP – LITTER & WASTE (our sixth flag) on Tuesday, May 24. Oscar  and Ethan  attended the ceremony in The Helix, accompanied by Ms. Maher and Mr. Concannon. Of course, awards like this are only possible as a result of the hard work and enthusiasm shown by the Green Team and by the pupils and teachers of St. Joseph’s. Well done to all concerned.

Bodhrán Workshop

The boys and girls from St. Augustines in Blackrock gave a bodhrán workshop to the boys in 3rd class today. We have some session musicians in the making.

Liesbeth and Mr. O’Flynn joined Ryan in studio to talk about her recent visit to St. Joseph’s BNS Terenure to speak to the students.
