Safer Internet Day (SID)
We celebrated Safer Internet Day (SID 2018) on Tuesday 6th February.
We had some fun activities such as Super Selfie, MySelfie and the wider world, the Granny Rule, and making posters to help promote safer internet for all of us.
We also worked on an online code and debated issues such as ‘cyber bullying’. We all received a SID2018 wristband which reminds us that it UP2US to keep safe online.

Hour of Code
This is the annual Hour of Code week and we are busy coding with all classes. Coding is very popular with the boys and we it is made even more attractive now with the integration of Star Wars, Minecraft, Flappy Birds and Moana. Hour of Code week is supported by many of the world’s celebrities in sport and IT. We will be following this up with some Scratch coding.

Hour of Code

Congratulations to all the boys who have written thousands of lines of code this week as part of the Hour of Code initiative. The aim is to interest boys and girls all over the world in coding and the boys in St. Joseph’s are really enjoying the challenges posed and we have some programmers of the future. For the past few weeks we have been working on Scratch and this week we’re using Javascript.

Our project with the Italians
This is an image of the class in Italy taken during the video link.
We did a project in Ms. Bleahene’s class with an Italian school (LASTRA SCUOLA) on the Celts. We told them about the warriors, clothes, houses (crannòg), food, farming, religion and metal work. We talked to them on Skype. We dressed up one of the days for the Skype video call. Some people in our class made a crannòg model. We had two practices with the Italian school. We sent them photos of our crannòg model as we were talking to them. Two boys brought in jewellery to show them. The Italians asked us questions about the Celts. The Skype meeting was recorded in Italy by an Irish company called Agtel.
